Skin Tags & Warts

These are harmless skin lesions, but can irritate and look unsightly.

What is a skin tag?

Skin tags are common, harmless outgrowings of skin that often appear as a person gets older or if a person becomes overweight. They usually appear where the skin rubs or folds on itself such as around the neck, under the arms and in the groin.

Can skin tags be treated?

Dr Ghura is an expert Consultant Surgical Dermatologist in Manchester and uses a variety of techniques to remove skin tags, always aiming for the best cosmetic outcome. These include: Cautery (burning), Cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen), Snipping and Shave excision depending on how big the skin tag is and where it is.

What is a wart?

Warts on the skin are very common and innocent. There are two main types- viral warts or seborrhoeic warts (also called seborrhoeic keratosis). Viral warts are caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) and are very common especially in children and those with eczema or patients who are immunosuppressed. Seborrhoeic warts are part of “growing up” i.e. getting older! They can vary a lot in appearance from being flesh-coloured to red or brown/black. They will not become cancerous but can sometimes be mistaken as Skin cancers and so its always best to be assessed by a Skin Expert Consultant Dermatologist such as Dr Ghura.

What treatments are there for warts?

Dr Ghura uses a variety of approaches to get the best result for his patients including creams, cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen), shave removal or sometimes excision.
